A response from the freedom of information coordinator of Girton College to a freedom of information request. The response reads as follows. Dear Jane doe, Re; College Investments. Thank you for your request of 12th June 2025, received by email. I understand that you are seeking the following information: (1) A list of the companies which the College holds stocks and shares in, specifying how many shares are held and the approximate value of the shareholding. (2) A list of exchange traded funds, private equity funds, mutual funds, index funds, commodities, hedge funds, and bonds that the college has investments in, including the approximate value of each. (3) In the case of any indirectly held or fund-based investments a breakdown of the companies invested in through the fund, including the percentage of the total fund made up by each holding. (4) A list of properties that the college has investments, including the approximate value of each. (5) A list of any other investments teh college holds, including the approximate value of each. I confirm that the College holds some of the information that you have requested, and respond to your request as follows: 1. Question 1 is not applicable. The College does not hold individual company stocks. 2. As of 31st May 2025, the latest investments held by Girton are: Amundi ESG Global Low Carbon: £82.5m; Amundi ESG European Corporate Index: £5.4m; Amundi ESG US Corporate Index: £5.7m; Charities Property Fund: £13.3m; Partners Capital private equity funds: £19.0m; Vanguard UK Inflation Linked Gilt Index Fund: £3.9m; Lloyds Bank fixed term deposits: £4.1m; Barclays Bank investment account: £0.2m; Total: £135.1m. 3. Question 3 is not applicable. The College does not invest in specific companies. The College investments listed in the response to question 2 are "funds of funds" or other investments.
Part 2 of the FOI response continues as follows. 4. Question 4 is not applicable. The College has no individual properties in its investments. 5. The College has no further investments. Investment Policy

Girton College Responsible Investment Policy:

“the College is clear that its investment activities: – must fully reflect and, as far as possible, advance the ethical commitments core to the College’s mission, including proactively addressing the issue of climate change; – must be conducted in such a way that the reputational risk to the College and its community is as far as possible mitigated.”

The College’s policy is to invest in investment grade corporate debt via index tracker funds which replicate the Bloomberg Barclays MSCI SRI indices, and which adhere to policies consistent with Girton’s ethical commitments. Specific exclusions are: 

  • All fossil fuel reserves, energy sector and gas utilities stocks, and thermal coal 
  • Nuclear power 
  • Companies involved in significant controversies (i.e. breaches of the UN Global Compact)
  •  Military weapons and civilian firearms 
  • Genetically-modified organisms 
  • Tobacco, alcohol, gaming and pornography 

The College may also have exposure to funds invested in UK government securities.
