FOI Report
An answer to a copy of this FOI, from the bursar on 23rd October 2025:
Dear Christine1,
My apologies for misspelling your name on my last email.
I have looked again at this FOI request on Whatdotheyknow. I am going to ask the requester to give their name before replying. This is requirement of the FOI legislation, and this request has clearly made by someone under a pseudonym.
I am happy however to treat your email to me as an FOI request in the same terms. The information requested and my replies are as follows:
(1) A list of companies which the College holds stocks and shares in, specifying how many shares are held and the approximate value of the shareholding.
The College does not directly hold any stocks or shares in companies by way of investments, save for two legacy holdings (SDI Group plc – market value £72k, and Wadworth plc – estimated value £34k)
(2) A list of exchange traded funds, private equity funds, mutual funds, index funds, commodities, hedge funds, and bonds that the college has investments in, including the approximate value of each.
Cambridge University Endowment Fund £11.3m
Cazenove Charities Sustainable Multi Asset Fund £25.9m
(3) in the case of any indirectly held or fund-based investments a breakdown of the companies invested in through the fund, including the percentage of the total fund made up by each holding.
The above two funds are largely of the “fund of funds” type and thus the College does not have details of all the ultimate underlying companies. The Cazenove fund discloses to us its direct equity holdings (see the attached list of companies) which amount to 25% of the holdings in that fund and no single holding exceeds 1.6%.
(4) a list of properties that the college has investments, including the approximate value of each.
The College does not hold real estate for investment purposes. It owns a small number of properties in Cambridge which have potential for College future operational use and which are currently let. These are accounted for as investment assets but are not held for investment purposes.
(5) A list of any other investments the college holds, including the approximate value of each.
None
If you are not satisfied with the outcome of the request please request an internal review of the decision. If, after following those procedures you are still not satisfied with the way in which your request has been dealt with you may apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally, the Commissioner will not entertain your complaint unless you have exhausted any relevant internal review procedures.
Best wishes
John
